Our grand-dog came to visit this weekend and he decided he needed to go out around 330 this morning.
I let him out and heard a bark yelp and at first thought, uh oh is
there something out there that just hurt Buster? I went out and heard him
making wet slurping sounds and I knew, I just knew what happened.
He came when I called and there was his sweet Boxer nose all covered with porcupine quills. And he is in distress.
We
had three agents at our office over the past month that had the same
experience so I knew there was a 24 hour Veterinary Hospital in
Manchester and gave them a call. It is the Southern NH Veterinary Referral Hospital and boy were they great, they took us right in. Buster went nighty night and was back out in less than an hour.
Thankfully he didn't bite at the porcupine and didn't have them in his mouth.
Buster does the Boxer thing, he pokes with his nose when he wants to
investigate, he always makes me giggle when he pokes my stomach with his
big square nose and I know that's JUST what he did with this
porcupine. The vet said it was a baby based on the size of the quills.....OK where's mama and his siblings?
After we got home my husband said, we should have taken a picture of Buster. I was too worried about the big boy at the time, I really felt for him.
As much as this is about poor Buster and his porcupine encounter, let's get a plug in for another great reason to live in Amherst NH, access to 24 hour veterinary care!
The Southern NH Veterinary Referral Hospital is located at 336 Abby Road in Manchester as was just a quck 25 minute ride from Amherst. I am so thankful to have 24 hour veterinary care available in our area. Their phone number is 603-782-8181
