Amherst Village is a quaint country village in Amherst NH. Village homes are clustered around the Amherst Village Green which is s the hub of community activities.
Throughout the year there are many activities that take place in Amherst Village, such as the Easter Egg hunt, the 4th of July Parade and Celebration , Summer concerts, Halloween in Amherst Village and of course Christmas in Amherst Village, when many of the Amherst NH village homes are decorated for the holiday and white candles can be seen in the windows.
Amherst Historic District is one of the largest districts in New Hampshire, with over 120 buildings and 1600 acres. Unlike some towns where a
few properties may be on the National Register, the entire Historic
District is on the National Register. In brief, the Historic District
has played a significant role in understanding the history of our town,
and our role in local and regional history.
To be
eligible for the National Register the landmark must not have lost the
physical qualities that convey its significance.
Of course the Town of Amherst maintains strict zoning regulations to preserve the integrity of the Amherst Historic Village. All Amherst Village homes that are in the Amherst Historic District are subject to the Historic District Regulations.
Amherst Town Hall sits at the head of the Amherst Village Green and has one of the oldest cemetaries in the State behind it. Take a stroll through the cemetary and look at some of the dates and inscriptions, its very interesting.
